'Unpredictable': Dallas Cowboys Ranked 'Hardest Team to Mock Draft' by Analyst
It hasn't been the best offseason for the Dallas Cowboys. Private contract negotiations becoming public, executives walking back guarantees of what "all-in" means, and limited cap space have left the defending NFC East champs searching for answers leading up to the 2024 NFL Draft.
The Cowboys have always been a team that wants to build a championship team through the draft. It happened in the 90s and has been attempted since the late 2000s to no such avail. To a fault, Dallas places a lot of pressure on the draft picks they make.
That being said, as the 2024 selection process draws closer, the Cowboys have a plethora of needs on both sides of the ball, only seven picks in the entire draft, and two in the first 64 overall.
In short, if the Cowboys are looking to totally revamp their roster, the deep class of 2024 may not all be there for them.
At the very least, one ESPN reporter made it clear that, not only could the Cowboys go anywhere on draft night, but they remain the hardest team to predict because of that.
"Hardest team to mock draft for? Cowboys," Jordan Reid tweeted during the week. "Need new starters at: LT/LG, C, RB, LB and lack depth at WR and DL. Little depth on the roster. Lots of pressure in Dallas to find multiple early contributors in this draft class."
It's hard to argue with Reid. Dallas has plenty of needs along the offensive line, doesn't have strong run defenders, desperately needs more help at linebacker, and their depth on the entire roster is lacking. With limited cap space as well, it's also hard to envision the Cowboys trading up in the draft for a top overall player because the contract requirements for those players increase based on where they are drafted.
That's a lot of needs for a team with only seven picks in the upcoming draft.
