Dallas Cowboys Icon Tony Romo Takes Kids to NCAA Sweet 16
As Duke and Houston battled in the Sweet 16 in Dallas, former Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo was in attendance, as shown by CBS cameras, the network he works for.
Romo spent his college days at Eastern Illinois but was treated to a great game between the Blue Devils and Cougars.
Duke outlasted Houston to advance to the Elite 8, it battles NC State for a shot at the Final Four later on Sunday.
"Well look who's here. Tony Romo on hand," Ian Eagle said during CBS' broadcast. "Our friend Jim Nantz could not make it tonight. Previous engagement."
Romo - who it appears replaced sidekick Nantz with the QB’s three young sons - being the center of attention in Dallas is nothing new. He spent 12 seasons with the Cowboys and compiled 34,183 passing yards, 248 touchdowns and 117 interceptions throughout the span. (Oddly, the TV crew notes, "They only had two seats?'' .. failing to recognize Romo as dad to three boys.)
The younger generation will likely recognize Romo as much as a standout quarterback. He is the lead color commentator for the NFL on CBS and will begin his eighth season when football returns after the summer.
As for NCAA Tournament action, UConn punched a ticket to the Final Four by drubbing Illinois with help from a 30-0 run to open the second half. Alabama used hot shooting to topple Clemson. The two programs collide on Saturday, April. 6.
Meanwhile, Duke has the aforementioned clash with ACC rival NC State, while Purdue clashes with Tennessee in a battle of the top two-seeded teams in the Midwest Region.
