Should Dallas Cowboys 'Panic' & Draft QB Amidst Dak Prescott Rumors?

Dak Prescott is entering the final year of his contract, which could prompt the Dallas Cowboys to take a quarterback in the 2024 NFL Draft.

The Dallas Cowboys have some decisions to make regarding the quarterback position with Dak Prescott set to become a free agent a year from now.

With Prescott's contract situation up in the air, Bleacher Report graded the Cowboys "quarterback panic meter" at being at "medium."

"It sure is looking as though this is a do-or-die season for Dak Prescott, which means the Cowboys need to consider their 2025 options sooner than later," Bleacher Report writes.

Could they consider an option out of this year's rookie class?

While the Cowboys won't pick a quarterback early, they could look to take someone on Day 3 like South Carolina's Spencer Rattler or if someone like Washington's Michael Penix Jr. slides out of the first day or two, he could be an option for Dallas.

Back in 2016, the Cowboys found Prescott in the fourth round of the draft. They didn't anticipate for him to be their starter, let alone in his rookie season, but that's how it came into fruition.

The team employs former No. 3 overall pick Trey Lance as well, but given how he was seen as the "emergency" quarterback a year ago, there's reason to believe the team may go after someone else. Lance is also a free agent at the end of the 2024 season, so drafting a quarterback next month would be added insurance long-term.

The NFL Draft takes place from April 25-27 in Detroit.
