Derrick Henry: Signing with Dallas Cowboys Would've Been 'Perfect'
Derrick Henry and the Dallas Cowboys seemed to be a match made in heaven, but like many such matches before it, it was not meant to be.
The two-time NFL rushing champion was one of the biggest names on the free agent market this offseason, and the Cowboys were one of several teams with reported interest. However, those reports amounted to nothing, as not only did Henry sign with the Baltimore Ravens, but the Cowboys reportedly never even called him while he was available.
The Cowboys' lack of interest was disappointing to Henry as someone who calls Dallas home. During an appearance on The Pivot podcast last week, Henry even said that signing with the Cowboys would've been a "perfect situation" for him.
"I knew that once free agency started, I wanted to work something out [with the Ravens] if we could,"Henry said. "Even though I'm living in Dallas and Dallas being a perfect situation as well because we lived there and wouldn't have to move."
Henry would've been an excellent addition ffor the Cowboys, as they now have a major need at running back following the departure of Tony Pollard (who ironically signed with the Tennessee Titans as Henry's replacement). Landing a four-time Pro Bowl selection, and one who once ran for over 2,000 yards in a season at that, would've secured the running back position for this season.
Despite his initial disappointment over not landing in Dallas, Henry is still very happy to have signed in Baltimore, where he'll hopefully have a chance to win a Super Bowl ring.
"I'm happy I'm going somewhere where they're hungry for it and they're right on the cusp," Henry added. "They're trying to win it. And being so close and losing that game to Kansas City, I know they're hungry, I know they're going to come in with the right mindset and let's get to it."
