'Giant' Problem: Could Dallas Cowboys Lose Dak Prescott to New York via Free Agency?
Here we gooooooo ... to New Jersey?
Dak Prescott's future with the Dallas Cowboys will remain a thorny talking point until he either wins a Super Bowl (or at least gets over the NFC Divisional hump) or takes his leave. Dallas management has hinted that it's willing to let Prescott's current contract situation play out, which would make him a free agent this time next year.
ESPN NFL insider previewed the possibility during a recent appearance on "The Pat McAfee Show," a situation that the eponymous McAfee referred to as "an ESPN dream."
"Dak, to me, is a really good quarterback," Schefter said (h/t Doug Rush of GMEN HQ). "So if and when he becomes a free agent net year, Dallas may want him back. But, there might be a quarterback-needy team ... Giants, Panthers, who knows ... we could go through the list right now, there will be no shortage of suitors for Dak Prescott as a true unrestricted free agent on the open market."
Dallas fans could perhaps stomach the idea of losing Prescott to the Carolina Panthers, especially knowing that it'd be in the name of headlining a potentially lengthy rebuild. But seeing him don the colors of an eternal rival would perhaps be too much to bear.
New York, traditionally adverse to rebuilds, is at a crossroads at quarterback; incumbent Daniel Jones will no doubt feel some heat from both veteran arrival Drew Lock and the potential rookie arrival with the sixth pick in the coming draft. The Giants rode the arms and legs of Jones to a playoff berth in 2022 but could be looking to make a change if they're forced into a passing conundrum this time around.
If anything, the Giants could try to land Prescott for themselves if only to end the lasting hex he's apparently placed upon the franchise: since dropping his first two appearances against Big Blue, Prescott has won 12 in a row against the Cowboys' fierce rival, amassing a 110.2 passer rating in that span.
