Cowboys WR4 Battle: Simi Fehoko vs. Jalen Tolbert vs. Surprise?

Cowboys receivers Simi Fehoko and Jalen Tolbert appear to be locked in a battle for the fourth receiver spot in Mike McCarthy's offense.

The Dallas Cowboys have a lot of receiver talent. CeeDee Lamb, Brandin Cooks, and Michael Gallup - the so-called "big three” - get much of the focus, of course. But what about the rest of the receiving corps?

That makes the position battle for the WR4 position fascinating offseason viewing, and maybe it is down to Simi Fehoko and Jalen Tolbert.

Third-year receiver Fehoko is now fully healthy after his shoulder injury last season, and to say he has been turning heads at OTA's might be an understatement.

Fehoko has been consistently making plays during OTA's and has gotten a decent amount of work with Dak Prescott, which included a touchdown catch at the end of practice on Thursday. He has also showed some seriously slick route-running for a big guy.

The receiver's speed is also better than one might expect given his 6-3, 220-pound frame, but he is putting his best foot forward after being fully healthy for the first time in months.

Now to Tolbert, who is also active in these ongoing OTAs ..

After an underwhelming rookie season that saw him catch just two passes for 12 yards and that unfortunate offside call against the Green Bay Packers, Tolbert, like Fehoko, is showing serious improvement thus far during OTA's.

Tolbert had some nice catches in drills on Thursday as he looks to be more confident in himself as he aims to build on what was a poor start to his NFL journey, which he openly admitted.

Head coach Mike McCarthy listed Tolbert, alongside defensive end Sam Williams as players he thinks can make that "second-year leap," and if Jalen can show some consistency not only during training camp, but preseason games when given opportunities, we could see him dressed for action more than last season.

Worth noting: There is an array of youngsters also in play here. Can KaVontae Turpin get involved in the offense? What about one of the many rookie names?

But for now? The battle between Fehoko and Tolbert is one that will make for an interesting watch this offseason. Both have a point to prove and have started their offseason workouts in the best way possible ... by making us take notice of their exploits.
