Navy SEALS & Dak Prescott Guide Cowboys on 'Mental Training' Trip

“I don't wanna just be 'culture, culture and how to build a better culture' because we're good on that. ... It’s more about how to use your culture.'' Dak Prescott, reflecting on a Cowboys 'mental training trip' with the Super Bowl in mind.

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. - Dak Prescott told us in the spring time that he would be guiding some of his Dallas Cowboys offensive teammates on a pre-training camp getaway "to the lake.''

We envisioned lots of throwing and catching. Maybe some golf. And ... gosh, we suppose ... lake activities or something.

But something else happened at Lake Oconee in Georgia, a weekend of "mental training'' that Dak modestly tells CowboysSI.com was indeed his idea ... and was keyed by a military leader who made the event very much about three words: “February 11, 2024.”

“That s** was amazing,” said wide receiver CeeDee Lamb. “The best feeling ever. Definitely, we hope and we’re gonna continue to work until we get there. February 11 can’t come soon enough.”

That, of course, is the date of the Super Bowl, with this workshop focused on going beyond just upgrading "team culture'' to what to do with it once it's established.

“I don't wanna just be 'culture, culture and how to build a better culture' because we're good on that,'' Prescott told Yahoo's Jori Epstein. ... and indeed, Dak and the Cowboys' frequent mention of "culture'' and "brotherhood'' haven't yet manifested themselves in vaulting nearer Super Bowl contention ... yet.

"It’s more about how to use your culture. It doesn’t mean anything if guys aren’t telling us what they’re sacrificing or what they’re trying to get better at, and if other guys aren’t holding them to that.”

Clearly, the focus here - which Yahoo writes was a five-session curriculum that utilized tactics from special operations units, addressing nutrition, sleep, conditioning, resilience and stress management - was about taking "culture'' to a deeper level.

“He gravitated right away to anything neck up,” former Navy SEAL Paul McCullough said about Prescott's involvement in the activity. “Anything about culture, accountability, goal-setting or getting one percent better, his eyes lit up.”

The Cowboys have their culture. They have their leader. The next step is about Dak Prescott and Dallas transforming those foundational pieces into true Super Bowl contention.
