'Amazing Tools!' Should Cowboys Draft Clemson DT Bryan Bresee?

Can the Cowboys continue their draft excellence? Would the premium pick of DT Bryan Bresee do that?

FRISCO - The Dallas Cowboys are in a luxurious position heading into the 2023 NFL Draft ... And that is not a reference to owner Jerry Jones famously making selections from his yacht in 2020.

Dallas filled its needs in free agency, retaining key players and adding a few veterans to fill holes on the roster like wide receiver Brandin Cooks and corner back Stephon Gilmore.

After finishing 12-5 last season, Dallas currently holds the the No. 26 pick and the opportunity to pick "best player available'' in the draft. With history on their side of making solid first-round selections, can the Cowboys continue their draft excellence?

In NFL.com's latest mock draft the Cowboys are adding a weapon for defensive coordinator Dan Quinn's defense, drafting Clemson defensive tackle Bryan Bresee.

If Cowboys coordinator Dan Quinn loves athletic defensive tackles with heavy hands and ballerina-like feet, Bresee could be in play here. The Clemson product is a talented interior defender with amazing tools that could help him blossom into a star as a pro.

Bresee was the nation's top recruit in the 2020 class. Scouting reports on the 300-pound tackle shows his ability to disrupt the pocket with the possibility of playing outside the tackles. Bresee's production at Clemson does not jump off the page but he did recover from an ACL tear to earn a career-high 82.0 pass-rushing grade in 2022.

Pro Football Focus ranks Bresee as the 21st-best prospect in the draft.

Last season, Quinn's unit lead the NFL in takeaways for the second straight year (33), and was fourth in sacks (54), first in forced fumbles (23), and fumble recoveries (17), along with being the fifth-best defense in terms of points allowed (20.1).

The majority of the starters return, along with the addition of Gilmore. ... and while defensive tackle isn't considered a "need'' by some (we discuss that here within the framework of taking Georgia's Jalen Carter) ...

Drafting a quick-footed prospect to add along Dallas' already-dangerous defensive line? No doubt, Bresee would benefit from learning from Quinn and front-seven stars DeMarcus Lawrence and Micah Parsons

Get this right? The Cowboys - who have talked an awful lot about drafting offense - help on the other side of the ball in a way that could continue Dallas' first-round wins.
