FRISCO - Buffalo Bills star receiver Stefon Diggs' "warning'' isn't necessarily aimed at this week's opponent, the Dallas Cowboys. No, it's more about a "scatter-shooting'' effect meant to send projectiles in the direction of every adversary and every detractor.

“We battled a lot, been battle-tested,'' Diggs said this week as his 7-6 Bills prepare to host the 10-3 Cowboys on Sunday at windy and wet Highmark Stadium. “And it’s a big thing being battled-tested.''

It can be, and Buffalo - the three-time defending AFC East champ - has won a lot of battles. But even as the Bills attempt to surge toward the NFL playoffs and are in for a fight for their postseason lives, they have lost three of their last five games.

The defense is wounded. The offense is erratic. The coaching staff is under fire. And 7-6 is far below their own expectations.

But, said Diggs, “Is the record a reflection of our team? I don’t think so. But it is the record. The only thing we can do is win the next game, win the next play.''

Buffalo will do that with a chance to feature Diggs, as consistent a dangerous weapon as there is in the NFL. The Cowboys, meanwhile - who won't have Stefon's brother Trevon available, of course, as he's injured and out for the year - have a chance to make a "statement'' with a road win against a quality foe.

The Cowboys, just 3-3 on the road this year and a .500 team away from home over the last two seasons, are excited to show they've got the right stuff to do that here.

And of course, Diggs' Bills are excited to do the same.

Diggs Brothers Together? 'It Could Happen,' Says Cowboys Trevon & Bills Stefon

"Down this stretch, we get to see what we’re made of,'' Diggs said. "And as a true competitor, if you’re a real competitor, that’s what you want. And I like being an underdog more than anything.”

The Bills are not technically "an underdog'' here; they're actually 2.5-point favorites. But we get Diggs' message ... and so should anyone within scatter-shooting distance of it.
