'Good Battles!' Cowboys Coaches Dan Quinn vs. Mike McCarthy - 'Fight' at Camp

Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy is now the offensive play-caller, with defensive coordinator Dan Quinn excited for the ensuing battles at training camp.

After going toe-to-toe with offensive coordinator Kellen Moore for the last two years, Dallas Cowboys defensive coordinator Dan Quinn now has a new practice-session dance partner - head coach Mike McCarthy.

With "Big Mike," now installed as the play-caller alongside his head coaching duties (and with Moore in Los Angeles with the Chargers), Quinn has already seen the positive impact McCarthy's new title has made.

"It's really cool to see Mike in that role," Quinn said. "It looks, from my opinion, that he's having a blast. Sometimes as a head coach, when you're not the play-caller, you're yearning for it, so I've seen that with him, the energy he has for it. I've felt some happiness and joy for him going out there, and you can see his competitive juices going."

With OTA's and minicamp, there are practice sessions, but not like the competitive ones that will come during training camp after the Cowboys report to Oxnard - according a source - on July 24.

With the Dallas offense ranked as one of the NFL's most explosive units during McCarthy's reign and Quinn's defense also one of the best groups in the entire league in back-to-back seasons, seeing the two sides compete during training camp will be excellent viewing.

Iron sharpens iron, and Quinn already knows that he and McCarthy will have some serious battles on the field in Oxnard.

"We'll have some good battles, 100 percent, no question about it," Quinn said with a smile. "That's what makes coaching fun. It's not just the player-to-player but often time coaches-to-coaches. I've coached against Mike for a long time, and he's one of the best. Hopefully, we have a lot of fun out in California."
