Bobby Wagner Signing Means 'Super Bowl Level' for Cowboys or Seahawks; K.J. Wright EXCLUSIVE
FRISCO - Bobby Wagner has such an impressive resume and is coming off such an impressive season (as usual) that he appears to have choices.
And his long-time Seattle Seahawks linebacker buddy K.J. Wright has insights.
"Bobby will make his teammates better,'' Wright wisely tells CowboysSI.com in an exclusive interview. "Wherever he goes, he will help take that organization to a new level.''
The Dallas Cowboys could use that. So could the Seahawks.
The Cowboys have re-signed Leighton Vander Esch, but a source tells CowboysSI.com that the team - with defensive coordinator and Wagner mentor Dan Quinn in place - still has interest in Wagner.
Meanwhile, what may be an even more natural fit - Wagner going free from the Rams (his 2022 employer) to boomerang back to his original and long-time team, the Seattle Seahawks, also seems to be in play.
Wright and Wagner played together in Seattle for almost a decade, and won a Super Bowl, too. They are best friends, and while K.J., now out of football, doesn't want to speak for "Wags'' ...
Well, he can certainly speak about him.
Why should Wagner, who turns 33 in June, go back to Seattle?
"When you’ve played a decade for one organization,'' Wright tells us, "it is your second home. Your home is there. You know what your routine is going to look like, you know everyone in the building.
"Everything flows well when you’re 'home.''
And ... why should Wagner consider the Cowboys, should a real offer come his way?
"He played under Dan Quinn, who knows how to utilize his skill set to make him dominate for another year,'' Wright tells us. "He’ll come in and show the Cowboys what a 'championship culture' looks like. How to prepare your mind and body. How to study film and how to be a great off the field as well.
"I grew up a Cowboys fan, so I'd sign there in a heartbeat. For Bobby? It makes all the sense in the world to bring his play and presence onto that football team.''
Wright raves about Wagner's "football IQ''; It is "like no other guy I’ve ever played with. He sees and understands the game so well.'' That is a commodity that Wagner, a six-time first-team All-Pro, surely believes brings added value wherever he lands.
"I know Bobby knows his value, which has consistently shown itself on the football field,'' Wright tells us. "The team that signs him will be someone who is serious about holding up that Lombardi Trophy at the end of the 2023 NFL season.''
