Byron Jones Signing? Cowboys Face Brutal Free Agency Truth

Byron Jones? Good man. Good player. But … Why would the Dallas Cowboys want to sign a player who “can’t run or jump”?

FRISCO - The Dallas Cowboys could use cornerback help, and before Saturday’s Byron Jones news - broken by Jones himself - that he “can’t run or jump” as a result of the demands of the NFL (and some incendiary accusations to go along with that announcement), Byron to the ‘Boys after a Miami Dolphins release made some sense.

But now? Why is there lingering speculation about a connection?

After all: Didn’t Jones just say he cannot “run or jump”?

“Today,” Jones tweeted on Saturday, “I can't run or jump because of my injuries sustained while playing this game.”

Our colleagues at Dolphins SI note that this marks Jones “breaking his public silence on his mysterious situation … and it is eye-opening and then some.”

The Dolphins cornerback missed the entire 2022 season while recovering from offseason leg surgery and, it seems, has not completely recovered in a way that would seem to put in doubt his ability to continue his fine NFL career.

ESPN is now citing a source claim that Jones is not retiring. Meanwhile, the Dolphins, who have been rumored to be preparing to release Jones, are facing $14.8 million in dead money.

So Jones would in theory be free to rejoin the Cowboys. … an idea that’s being written about still while ignoring a sad but key question, brutal as it might be …
