Cowboys BREAKING: Ronald Jones Suspended; RB Just Cost Himself Roster Spot?

Maybe now we know why coach Mike McCarthy hasn't been talking up Ronald Jones, as the Cowboys back has been hit with a two-game suspension for violating the NFL's policy on performance-enhancing substances.

It struck us as odd that on Monday at Dallas Cowboys training camp in Oxnard, when head coach Mike McCarthy rattled off the attributes of the guys who make up his running back depth, he didn't really bother to mention veteran Ronald Jones.

Maybe now we know why, as Jones has been hit with a two-game suspension for violating the NFL's policy on performance-enhancing substances.

Jones, 25, is a native of McKinney and has Super Bowl credentials in the NFL, playing for the Kansas City Chiefs and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The Cowboys have Tony Pollard as the new full-time starter and they drafted Deuce Vaughn out of Kansas State as a potential helper, along with young vets Malik Davis and Rico Dowdle.

“I tell you, I’m loving Rico Dowdle,"  McCarthy on Monday. "It’s great to have him back. Malik Davis has taken that jump that you’re looking for. Those guys really jump out. Obviously, we’ve got to get Deuce Vaughn involved, [too]."

And to that, even at the time, we offered a "hmmmmm.''

There's also been some speculation that Ezekiel Elliott could return to Dallas, but that has never really been the Cowboys' position, as Zeke flirts with possible bids from the Jets and the Patriots. ... Nevertheless, yes, you can expect the Zeke speculation to fire up once again.

It says here that the Cowboys do not need to make another move following this suspension, as Jones was already a bubble guy in competition with Davis and Dowdle for the No. 2 job, with Vaughn seen as a likely No. 3 running back. But we will keep you posted.
