Cowboys cut Mike White; here are 5 QBs Dallas could look at off waivers
FRISCO - NFL teams have made their cuts down to their 53-man rosters. That includes the Dallas Cowboys, of course, but that doesn’t mean rosters are set in stone. ... Especially with Dallas presently going with two QBs.
Dak Prescott, of course, is the guy. Cooper Rush is the No. 2. And Mike White showed not enough, pushing him to weekend waivers. Are the Cowboys "hanging out'' at QB, as Jimmy Johnson used to call it? We can argue that the answer is "yes'' ... Which causes us to borrow an idea from our friends at Mile High Huddle.
It's important to note the difference between a) QB names we collect from having spoken to Cowboys officials and b) a four-man QB list crafted by the smart folks who cover the Broncos. This is the latter ... but it remains "smart.'' ... (Words of wisdom with the help of Mile High Huddle):
Taylor Heinicke, QB: Heinicke only has one start under his belt.
Brandon Allen, QB: Just like with Heinicke, he doesn’t have much experience.
Brian Hoyer, QB: A veteran with experience as Tom Brady's long-time backup in New England.
Paxton Lynch, QB: Actually, the Mile High Huddle guys think "his preseason with the Seahawks should be the last ball he plays in the NFL.' But once upon a time, the Cowboys personnel department thought highly of him.
Kevin Hogan, QB: The Broncos backup got beat out. He, and Hoyer, too, might not just be better than Mike White; they might be more equipped to bus-drive Dallas to a win than Cooper Rush.
QB is the hardest position to fill in football. The late-round Mike White flier was worth it. Taking a chance on another developable prospect? That'd be worth it, too. Adding a bus driver? Well worth it as well.
