Cowboys Ex Brett Maher Cut by Rams: Predicting Where Dallas Has An Edge

Cowboys Ex Brett Maher Cut by Rams: Predicting Where Dallas Has An Edge

After a much-needed bye week, the Dallas Cowboys will be back in action this Sunday as they take on the Los Angeles Rams at AT&T Stadium.

The Rams are coming off a 24-17 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers and now find themselves 3-4 and a far cry away from that 2022 Super Bowl championship.

One area that has caused problems for the Rams this season is one the Cowboys know a little something about as well.

Rams placekicker Brett Maher, a former Cowboy, has struggled recently, missing two field goals and an extra point in Sunday's game.

And now he’s gone. Rams head coach Sean McVay on Tuesday cut Maher … with the Rams hiring a new kicker as they  are planning to sign former Colts kicker Lucas Havrisik off the Browns’ practice squad, per reports.

Another area in which the Rams have struggled is the secondary. Once again, a far cry from Rams teams in the past, the secondary has not been at its best, especially last week.

Some of the Ram's best cornerbacks in Derion Kendrick and Akhello Witherspoon were tested on Sunday as the Steelers wide receivers kept making big plays against this secondary.

Yes, the Rams have not been as strong as Rams teams in the past, but there is no denying the serious star power they have in the rookie superstar wide receiver Puka Nacua.  The former BYU Cougar has stepped up big-time for the Rams after losing top receiver Cooper Kupp for a time due to a hamstring injury.

The fifth-round draft pick Nacua leads the NFL in receptions with 58, has 39 catches, and 501 yards in four games - which are the most through the first four games in NFL history.

With Kupp back and Nacua leading the NFL, the Cowboys will have those two circled and a big game plan ready before Sunday's matchup. Additionally, of course, Dallas has to figure out a way to corral defensive tackle Aaron Donald, maybe the best in the business.

While this Rams roster has some holes in it, pressuring quarterback Matthew Stafford will be a huge element in this game if the 4-2 Cowboys are to get the win.

Kickoff between the Cowboys and the Rams is on Sunday at noon on Fox.
