Cowboys Ex Dez Bryant Reveals Mental Health Truth About Signing with Ravens

Former Dallas Cowboys receiver Dez Bryant clears up rumors of him turning down a multiyear contract with the Baltimore Ravens.

FRISCO - Dez Bryant will forever be connected with and thought of as a Dallas Cowboys star ... and we're pretty sure he's fine with that. But he did as a matter of record end his NFL career with the Baltimore Ravens. ... and now he's clearing up some rumors about how that time ended.

"They tried to say I turned down (a longer-term contract with Baltimore) because I wanted a one-year, and that was false,'' writing on Twitter than in fact he "wanted to get my mental back in check and follow my journey and passion ...''

That coordinates with the many stories CowboysSI.com's Mike Fisher has written about Bryant's status, often with quotes from Bryant indicating his post-football interest in having "turned his attention to business interests and family time.''

But Bryant, who in the 2020 season sign with Baltimore and appeared in six games, totaling six receptions for 47 yards and two touchdowns, is nevertheless offering clarity. There were whispers about the Ravens offering Bryant a multiyear deal, and ESPN reported at the time that Bryant turned down the deal because he instead wanted a one-year contract, which would allow him to sign a bigger contract the following offseason. Bryant is reiterating that such is not the case.

"Fans across the world knew how much I truly loved the game," Bryant writes. "I realized it wasn’t more important than my well being and helping my fellow athletes who look like me truly understand who they are and their worth."

During his time with the Cowboys, Bryant was one of the top receivers in football. In eight seasons in Dallas, Bryant racked up 7,459 yards and 73 touchdowns, earning three Pro Bowl selections. He quickly became the favorite target for former Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo during the latter half of his career. And now, at age 34, he has indeed clearly moved on ... to business interests and family time.
