Cowboys Fall to Bucs in Final Preseason Outing 17-15

The Dallas Cowboys took the field at AT&T Stadium in Arlington for their final preseason tune-up of 2019 on Thursday night, falling to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in a 17-15 decision. 

While there is usually little to be gleaned in terms of top-level roster information in these final outings, it does provide the opportunity for fringe players to try and make their way onto the back end of the roster, either in a practice squad capacity or in a special teams role. 

Others, like Texas A&M playmaking safety Donovan Wilson, found themselves in position to have a chance to make the team with a chance to be real contributors in terms of depth in the regular season. 

In the end, some of those players impressed, while the majority of others may have seen the end of their time on a professional field until training camp next season. 

Quite possibly the biggest benefactor of tonight's game was the aforementioned Wilson, who managed to grab his third interception of the preseason. He would also finish with six tackles and a pass deflection.

The Texas A&M product was forced to leave the game due to injury later in the contest, but all signs point to him being good to go, and finding himself a spot on the final 53.

Another player who impressed was former Allen Eagle and North Texas wideout Jalen Guyton, who connected on a nice 69-yard catch and run with Taryn Christion for a score. 

Though Guyton is likely not in the same position as Wilson heading into final cuts, he may have shown solid enough upside to earn himself a practice squad invitation by the end of the week.

While there were other players who didn't fare so well, including struggling quarterback Mike White, the Cowboys now likely have most of the uncertainty surrounding most of the position groups wrapped up. 

The only question now is how and when the Ezekiel Elliott saga will be resolved, and whether it will happen in time for next week's season opener. 

With the Elliott negotiations firmly on their mind, the Cowboys will turn their attention to the New York Giants, who come to Arlington for the first matchup of the regular season on September 8th.
