Cowboys Injury Update at Practice: Zack Martin Ready? Trevon Diggs OUT

The Dallas Cowboys' midweek work here inside The Star includes a positive Injury Update at practice featuring All-Pro Zack Martin, who looks scheduled to Play In Week 3 at Arizona - positive, at least, until the awful Trevon Diggs news broke.

FRISCO - The Dallas Cowboys continue their preparation on Thursday here inside The Star before they travel to play the winless Arizona Cardinals on Sunday afternoon from State Farm Stadium. ... and continue to inch toward good health for Week …

With one nightmarish exception, as star cornerback Trevon Diggs injured a knee at the workout, tore his ACL, and is now out for the year.

That obviously casts a pall over what  Dallas has done so far, on the scoreboard and beyond, which is NFL-best stuff. The Cowboys are outscoring opponents, 70-10 - and the +60 margin of victory is the highest margin of victory through the first two games in franchise history since 1968.

How to keep that level of play going in an emotional post-Diggs time? Good health elsewhere would help ... and there is good Wednesday news on All-Pro guard Zack Martin and company.

Martin is working on the cords to start the day, but is expected to mix into practice. The other guard, Tyler Smith (hamstring), is expected to be limited … and indeed, the official injury practice report reflects that.

A fully fortified O-line can only help quarterback Dak Prescott, who is about to play his 100th NFL game. Prescott is fresh off completing 31-of-38 passes for 255 yards, two touchdowns and no interceptions vs. the Jets. ... and most critically inside the new "Texas Coast Offense'' is the turnover factor, as Dallas is is one of just five teams in 2023 that has yet to cough up the ball.

Tony Pollard and CeeDee Lamb have been central weapons to the success. Pollard has been a "bell cow.'' And Lamb? Through the first two games, Lamb has accumulated 137 of his 220 receiving yards when running after the catch. Partner Brandin Cooks is working through a knee issue but is expected to be OK.

Meanwhile, the Dallas defense looks to get after journeyman backup Josh Dobbs, who’s been thrust into the starting job in place of the rehabbing Kyler Murray. Cowboys leader DeMarcus Lawrence is saying his guys will be "hunting QBs'' no matter their status or style, a task that figures to be aided by safeties Jayron Kearse and Donovan Wilson. Wilson has yet to play due to a calf injury but should be full on Wednesday. Kearse may not practice due to a lingering illness but is in the building here at The Star.

Both of those DBs, and others like DaRon Bland and Jourdan Lewis, become even more important now with Diggs down and out.
