Cowboys Injury Update: Tyron Smith Sidelined, Dallas Signs New Lineman

The Dallas Cowboys, working their way through a couple of offensive line injuries, have added Canadian lineman Dakoda Shepley to their practice squad.

The issues as of Wednesday's workout at The Star: Tyron Smith (neck) is slated to only "work on the side'' and not practice. And top reserve Chuma Edoga (ankle) is expected to be limited.

By the way: Also missing during the media open portion of the workout: Stephon Gilmore, Michael Gallup, DeMarcus Lawrence and Jayron Kearse, all on what could be "rest days,'' as ESPN notes.

The day’s official injury reports from Dallas and Philly ..

Shepley is making a comeback to Dallas after his stint with the Cowboys in 2022. Early last season, he was added to the practice squad and saw action late with a total of 30 snaps. He was released just before the start of the postseason with the intention of re-signing him to the practice squad. However, during his 24-hour waiver period, the Colts swooped in and signed him.

The 6-foot-5 and 317-pound offensive lineman was released by the Colts mid-October.

During the 2021 season, Shepley was with the Seattle Seahawks, having been picked up off waivers from the San Francisco 49ers. While he was on the roster for eight games, he did not have any opportunities for offensive snaps.

Dallas saw the departure of two recent additions to their practice squad, tight end Eric Saubert and guard Chris Glaser.

Saubert became a part of the Cowboys' roster during their recent bye week. A former fifth-round draft pick of the Atlanta Falcons under now-Dallas defensive coordinator Dan Quinn, the tight end swiftly made his way to the Cowboys' 53-man roster. Within just four days of his arrival at The Star, he participated in 14 special-teams plays against the Rams. Now, he is set to join the active roster of the Houston Texans.

Glaser, on the other hand, is returning to New York for his second tenure with the Jets, following a brief one-week stint with the Cowboys.

Due to these departures, the Cowboys brought back Shepley for insurance depth. ... even as the team has expressed optimism that both Tyron and Chuma might be ready to go Sunday at the Eagles.
