Dak Deal: Cowboys Help From NFL Tag Deadline Change?
FRISCO - Tuesday at 3 p.m. CT. That is supposed to be the "deadline day'' and time for NFL teams to utilize the franchise tag on players who would otherwise become unrestricted free agents next week.
Teams like the Dallas Cowboys.
Players like Dak Prescott.
But Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports that the deadline could change, all based on whether the official salary cap number, as determined by the NFL's Big Calculator, is arrived at by Monday
If it is, the tag deadline remains in place. If it doesn’t come on Monday, the NFL will move back the deadline to franchise tag players.
Rap Sheet's report notes that assorted NFL GMs are preparing for such a delay, and in theory, such a delay "buys time'' for those GMs, like Dallas' Jerry Jones (and Stephen Jones and staff), along with agents (like Todd France repping Dak) to get something done.

Last year, due to NFL players needing to vote on the new CBA, the deadline was delayed in a similar way. Result? Dak still got tagged. The four days didn't matter.
This time, the hours, the days, whatever, do not matter unless both parties want them to. Together.
