Dak Prescott Eats Turkey Leg on Sideline As Dallas Cowboys Gobble Up Washington Commanders in 45-10 Thanksgiving Win
ARLINGTON - The Dallas Cowboys have played on Thanksgiving for over half a century, and on Thursday against the Washington Commanders, they showed why they own the holiday in a 45-10 blowout win. ... a victory that eventually came with such casual ease that late in the game, Dallas QB Dak Prescott was seen getting an early start on dinner by chomping on a turkey leg.
It was a challenge early on for Dallas, maybe, at least from a certain point of view. In the first half, the Cowboys' offense was firing on all cylinders while the defense had a somewhat lackluster showing. In the second half, though, both units were outright dominant.
And by the time a Prescott-to-KaVontae Turpin deep TD toss resulted in Turin jumping into the gigantic Salvation Army kettle where the team had stored that aforementioned turkey leg?
Yes, the rout - another one! - was on.
Starting with the offense, the Cowboys' high-octane attack completely overwhelmed the Commanders' hapless defense. Despite losing the time-of-possession battle by a noticeable margin, Dallas still racked up 431 yards on the day, their second-highest total of the season.
Defensively, it was a shaky start as the Commanders moved the ball effectively in the first half, keeping it somewhat close at the break. After halftime, though, the Cowboys tightened up and didn't allow another point the rest of the game. Two key stops on fourth-and-one drastically swung momentum in Dallas favor, as those stops led to back-to-back touchdowns.
The Cowboys also witnessed history in this game, as cornerback DaRon Bland continued his outstanding season. Bland took a Sam Howell interception 63 yards to the house in the fourth quarter for his fifth pick six of the year, setting the single-season record that he tied in Sunday's win over the Carolina Panthers.
Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott continued his phenomenal play recently, completing 22 of 32 passes for 331 yards and four touchdowns. Brandin Cooks, CeeDee Lamb, KaVontae Turpin and Rico Dowdle all caught touchdowns, while Tony Pollard added another on the ground in one of his better performances of the season.
For Washington, Howell completed 28 of 44 passes for 300 yards with an interception, and he scored on the ground for the Commanders' lone touchdown. Curtis Samuel had a solid performance with nine receptions for 100 yards.
The Cowboys have another Thursday game coming up, as they host the Seattle Seahawks on Nov. 30. It won't likely be as easy as the last three games, all blowouts over the Giants, the Panthers and the Commanders.
But just in case? Maybe there will be a sideline snack at the ready.
