Dallas Cowboys 3 ‘Subtle’ Takeaways from Week 8 Win

Here are three key “subtle” takeaways from the Dallas Cowboys' win over the Los Angeles Rams.

The Dallas Cowboys began Week 8 of the NFL season with 10 consecutive wins at AT&T Stadium, the longest active home winning streak in the league. However, the Cowboys are one of the most unpredictable teams each week. Quarterback Dak Prescott and the Cowboys' roster can completely dominate some weeks but then fall hard to teams like the Arizona Cardinals and San Francisco 49ers.

Dallas, though, ended up putting another win on the record on Sunday against the Los Angeles Rams with a 43-20 decision.

Many on the roster had a dominant game. Prescott threw four touchdowns for the Cowboys while Micah Parsons and the defense pulled its weight by bringing in some points as well.

But there are some “subtle” and key takeaways from the Cowboys' win over the Rams worth mentioning, too.

The Rams simply could not hang on.

Los Angeles lost by 23 points, the second-largest loss of Rams head coach Sean McVay's career. CeeDee Lamb was unstoppable for the Cowboys' offense and it seemed like the Rams had no game plan to stop him. With 12 receptions for a total of 158 yards and two recorded touchdowns, Lamb was truly a difference-maker in the game. And no, Lamb wasn’t “subtle.” But blowing out McVay? It’s a rarity that merits mention.

The bye week was much needed for the Cowboys.

The Cowboys seemed to have more diversity in their play-calling following their week off, especially in the red zone. Before Sunday's matchup, Dallas only converted 39.1 percent of its red-zone attempts into touchdowns. However, against the Rams, in four different drives, the Cowboys recorded two touchdowns and a field goal.

Or maybe “diversity” is what it looks like when so many things go right.

Following a bye, the win will be a momentum-booster for the Cowboys to take on the Philadelphia Eagles this upcoming weekend. … and keeping the “common-opponent” Eagles on their anticipatory heels would be helpful.

Jake Ferguson is a threat to the passing game.

While many thought that second-round pick Luke Schoonmaker might jump up and be the replacement for the departed Dalton Schultz this season, Ferguson has taken charge instead.

Ferguson has proved to be a reliable third choice for a receiver. On Sunday against the Rams, Ferguson totaled 47 yards off of four catches and recorded a touchdown. … a”subtle” security blanket that helps make things look much easier for Dak.
