'I'm Having A Blast!' Cowboys 70-10: McCarthy Reacts to Record-Setting Start
FRISCO - In terms of "button-pushing,'' the Dallas Cowboys coaching staff led by Mike McCarthy, and Will McClay-led personnel department as well - seem to be "playing Chess'' while some others are "playing Checkers.''
And McCarthy, powered by his 2023 team theme "Carpe Omnia,'' is both enjoying every minute of being 2-0 while also keeping his eyes on the Week 3 prize.
Said McCarthy as the Cowboys opened up the week's work here on Wednesday morning at The Star: “I’m having a blast. But 2-0 is what it’s all about.”
The undefeated Cowboys can easily make the claim that they are presently the NFL's best team ... They've dominated a pair of supposed contenders in the New York Giants and the New York Jets with a combined score of 70-10. On a more "inside-baseball'' note. the Cowboys defense has not allowed their past two opponents to even move inside the 40-yard line, as our friend Bobby Belt points out.
This has been a collective effort, as is usually the case when a team is this good. Micah Parsons and company are getting a great deal of credit for this "Doomsday'' defense.'' And Dak Prescott and his unit have been efficient and effective in running the "Texas Coast Offense.''
But none of it happens without the head coach pulling it all together - and the Cowboys very obviously have it together ... and they are now just one of the three teams in the league's history to have allowed only 10 points while scoring 70 or more points after NFL Week 2 since the merger.
All of which adds up to "fun,'' as McCarthy said. And "having a blast,'' as he said. But ...
"There is a lot of confidence that comes with success,'' the coach added carefully. "There is a fine line between being confident and complacent."
