Cowboys ‘Actors’ Audition for ‘Yellowstone’ in Schedule Release Video

Dallas as contenders in 2023? Cowboys owner Jerry Jones and the fellas seem ready to “act” the part.

FRISCO - What we knew coming into the Thursday NFL schedule release for the 2023 season: The Dallas Cowboys, who this year play the 17-game schedule with nine games on the road and eight games at home, are billed as having "the third-toughest schedule'' in football.

But even more difficult than that? Jerry Jones, Dak Prescott, Troy Aikman, Dez Bryant, Michael Irvin and the “Cowboys” trying to “act” like “cowboys” as they audition for roles in TV’s “Yellowstone.”

The show’s creator, DFW-based Taylor Sheridan, plays along in the video designed to announce the schedule. And it’s funny stuff, as you see here …

Now, what about the games? After all, the "strength of schedule'' chart says it is so. But in truth? to borrow a favorite word from Cowboys owner Jerry Jones ... it's "fungible.''

Yes, the combination of who Dallas plays (their divisional opponents the Giants, Commanders, Eagles twice, once at home and once on the road, plus hosting the Rams, Seahawks, Patriots, Jets and Lions at AT&T Stadium, and road trips to see the Chargers, Cardinals, 49ers, Dolphins, Panthers and Bills) adds up to a 2022 winning percentage of the foes of .549. That ties Dallas with the Giants and the Patriots. Also worth noting is that the Eagles have the "toughest'' slate in this regard, with a .556 win percentage.

But ... about that "fungibility'': For one thing, last year's editions of given teams aren't necessarily the same as this year's edition. And for another thing: It's not just about "who you play.'' It's about "when'' and "where'' you play them.

Or, in the case of the promo video, it’s about Cowboys playing Cowboys … and sticking to their day jobs.
