Dallas Cowboys Alive in NFC East? Eagles Booed At Home as Lowly Cardinals Tie Game Late

It may not have been pretty, and it certainly came with some controversy, but the Dallas Cowboys were able to hang on for a thrilling 20-19 over the Detroit Lions on Saturday night.

With the win, Dallas not only snapped its two-game losing streak, but also remains alive for a couple of crucial races in regards to seeding. Yes, the Cowboys locked up their playoff spot a couple of weeks ago, but with how much of a home-field advantage they've had over the past two seasons, they'll want to play as many games at AT&T Stadium as possible.

Fortunately for them, there is a clear path for them to get at least one home playoff game, and very likely more. ... and as we scoreboard-watch on Sunday, the Eagles may be allowing that path. ...

First and foremost, the Cowboys have their sights set on the NFC East title, but they'll need some help to get it.

In addition to beating the Washington Commanders in Week 18, the Cowboys will also need the Philadelphia Eagles to drop one of their remaining two games (vs. the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday and at the New York Giants on Jan. 7). The Eagles should be big favorites in both games, which puts the Cowboys at just a 23.4 percent chance to win the division according to ESPN's Football Power Index.

And right now, midway through the fourth quarter in Philly? The three-win Cardinals have just tied that game, 28-28, the Eagles having lost a halftime lead of 15 points ... with boos cascading down on them at The Linc.

Coming in to the day ...

Additionally, the Cowboys are still in play for the NFC's No. 1 seed, if the stars align. They'll need the aforementioned scenario to happen, as well as having the San Francisco 49ers lose both of their remaining games (at the Commanders on Sunday and vs. the Los Angeles Rams on Jan. 7).

The 49ers are the current top seed for a reason, so the chances of them losing both of those games is quite frankly minuscule, but it is still theoretically possible.

While taking Sunday to process the wild game the night before, the Cowboys will no doubt be doing some scoreboard watching as they look to improve their playoff standing.
