Cowboys Analysis: Trade Idea for Cordarrelle Patterson of Falcons?

A trade between the Falcons and the Cowboys, offloading Cordarrelle Patterson for Neville Gallimore? How would that work?

FRISCO - There is the perception that the Dallas Cowboys roster is presently one running back short. Meanwhile … The Atlanta Falcons suddenly have one of the deepest running back rooms in the NFL with vet Cordarrelle Patterson now being chased by kids Tyler Allgeier and rookie Bijan Robinson.

An Atlanta thought? The divvying up of carries will be a struggle, and the trading block may be their solution. And so …

Heavy.com proposes a trade between the Falcons and the Cowboys, offloading Atlanta's Patterson for a role player in Dallas defensive lineman Neville Gallimore.

"Gallimore has been a reliable role player for Dallas, but is entering the last year of his contract and could help the Falcons as a DT while they also save a bit of money by offloading Patterson’s contract," Heavy writes.

The often spectacular Patterson - a runner and a receiver and an all-time great return man … in exchange for the on-the-bubble Gallimore? Where do we sign up?

While Patterson has notched 1,983 all-purpose yards and 19 touchdowns in two seasons with Atlanta, Gallimore's three years in the NFL have produced 74 tackles, nine tackles for loss and three sacks for Dallas.

No offense to Gallimore, but Atlanta cannot be that desperate on the D-line.

Gallimore is on a cheap $2.743 million rookie deal, and he might fight his way to snaps behind Osa, Mazi Smith and Johnathan Hankins. But he likely cannot equate to Patterson's production for Atlanta.

The Cowboys, with Tony Pollard as the starter, might see “CP” as a step up as a backup. But we doubt Gallimore is the bait that gets Atlanta to bite.
