Does Cowboys Receivers Trio Rank as NFL Best?

The Dallas Cowboys invested in the wide receiver position this offseason, and were rewarded for it in a new countdown.

After trading wide receiver Amari Cooper to the Cleveland Browns last offseason, the Dallas Cowboys became too dependent on CeeDee Lamb in the passing game, a problem they tried to correct this offseason. And there's reason to believe that owner Jerry Jones and the Cowboys did just that.

Pro Football Focus recently ranked the top wide receiving corps in the NFL, and with the offseason addition of veteran wideout Brandin Cooks, Dallas came in at No. 6:

"The Cowboys made a big jump in these rankings when they acquired Cooks, who might not be the takeover-type receiver he used to be, but he doesn't have to be.

"With CeeDee Lamb coming off a great season in 2022, he’ll be the WR1 in that offense. That will likely make Cooks the WR2 and Michael Gallup the WR3. Even with tight end Dalton Schultz gone, that is an excellent group for quarterback Dak Prescott to throw to."

The well-traveled Cooks has been very productive across a nine-season career that's seen him play for the New Orleans Saints, New England Patriots, Los Angeles Rams and Houston Texans. Set to turn 30 in September, Cooks has 630 catches for 8,616 receiving yards and 49 touchdowns in his career.

Cooks will become the No. 2 wide receiver to Lamb, who has emerged as one of the best players at his position in the sport. The former first-round pick -- even without a second option to alleviate pressure on him -- had 107 catches for 1,359 yards and nine touchdowns a season ago.

If Gallup -- who never seemed to be back at 100% last year from the torn left ACL he suffered late in the 2021 season -- rebounds, the aforementioned Prescott could very well bounce back after a relatively disappointing season of his own.

The problem for the Cowboys is they are chasing the Philadelphia Eagles in the NFC East and NFC at large. With wide receivers A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith -- along with tight end Dallas Goedert -- the Eagles checked in at No. 2.
