Cowboys WR Brandin Cooks: 2 Big Changes for QB Dak Prescott

Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott has a new weapon in Brandin Cooks and details how impressive the receiver has been since landing at The Star.

New Dallas Cowboys receiver Brandin Cooks is making a great first impression. After joining the Cowboys via a trade from the Houston Texans, Cooks has wasted no time getting used to his new surroundings.

Part of that is developing chemistry with quarterback Dak Prescott. The pair have already had several sessions together - often in the QB’s “Dak-Yard” - as each gets to know the other in the lead-up to training camp.

It might be early on, but Dak detailed Cooks' professionalism as something that stands out for the veteran receiver.

"The moment that guy showed up and the workouts, the way he carries himself from drill to drill, what he does pre-workouts, post-workouts to take care of his body to make sure he has that speed, it's impressive," Prescott said while visiting with the media Wednesday at the Cowboys' 10th annual ⁦Reliant Energy Home Run Derby.

Dallas traded for Cooks due to the lack of consistent play behind No. 1 receiver CeeDee Lamb, who had a career year last season.

Aside from Lamb, none of the other pass-catchers - Dalton Schultz (577 yards), Noah Brown (555 yards) and Michael Gallup (424 yards) - were “dynamic” in the way Cooks himself promises to be as a consistent option in the passing game.

In fairness, how many guys possess the home-run speed that the Cowboys offense crave ... that Cooks boasts? For Prescott, his newest weapon has speed unlike anything he has seen before while adding the influence he is already having on the offense.

"When you're just throwing to him, it stands out," Prescott said. "His speed is different than others. The way he approaches the game, his knowledge, helping CeeDee, the young guys, it's going to be huge for me and huge for the room."

Dallas was the fourth-best offense in the NFL last season (27.5 points per game), and with the addition of Cooks and a new play-caller in Mike McCarthy, who will look to implement his West Coast system that was a feature in Green Bay, there are a lot of changes going on at The Star this offseason.

It might be early, but Cooks and Prescott are already getting the work in as the Cowboys look to end their infamous NFC Championship drought.
