Dallas Cowboys vs. Rams: Brandin Cooks Breakout Game in Dak Prescott Offense?

When the Dallas Cowboys traded for veteran receiver Brandin Cooks in the spring, the thought was he was the missing piece of the offensive puzzle. ... A speed-burner and savvy veteran who could help CeeDee Lamb and Co. go to the next level.

But through six weeks, as the offense sometimes stutters and sputters, Cooks hasn't seen much action ... until his efforts against the Los Angeles Chargers. Cooks caught four passes for 36 yards and a touchdown in what was his best game of the season.

But when things haven't been going well, is he one to voice his discontent to others?

“No, I’ve been around long enough, when you do that, you start to do that, you go to the quarterback, you go to the coach, now he has another thought on his mind,” Cooks said. “Like I got to get him involved because he may be frustrated. That’s not why I’m here, I’m here to win games, so trust the process.”

With the offense struggling to begin the season, one thing that had been missing was quarterback Dak Prescott and his scrambling ability.

Through the early part of his career, Dak was the very definition of a dual-threat quarterback. But after that horrific injury against the New York Giants in which he suffered an ankle fracture and dislocation, we have seen him run less and less.

But he turned back the clock against the Chargers, and his ability to scramble to extend plays and run for first downs proved decisive in the win.

For Cooks, Prescott's ability to use his legs could be a valuable weapon in getting the offense into a flow going forward.

"Absolutely, because now you’re talking about getting outside the pocket, he may run or he may throw,” Cooks said. “So anytime you can get the defense guessing, that’s going to help the flow of your offense for sure.”

It hasn't been smooth sailing through the first six weeks for the Cowboys, but with Cooks starting to emerge on offense and Prescott getting on the run more, perhaps the "Texas Coast Offense'' will begin to show signs of life. ... and perhaps Cooks can offer up another "breakout game'' - a way to be loud on the field while keeping quiet in the building.
