Dallas Cowboys BREAKING: Randy Gregory Cut by Denver Broncos
FRISCO - The Dallas Cowboys received a great deal of criticism during their contract negotiations with defensive end Randy Gregory during the 2022 offseason.
But amid speculation and allegations, there was one truth that was indisputable: Dallas had a set and standard framework on what they would pay Gregory and how they structured a deal that Gregory essentially agreed to before balking and then suddenly helping to announce that he had signed with the Denver Broncos.
We are now a year and a half removed from that transaction, and it looks more and more that like Cowboys owner Jerry Jones’ organization knew what it was doing with its framework …
As on Wednesday morning, Gregory - who never was able to come close to living up to the fat contract Denver signed him to last year - has been unceremoniously cut by the Broncos.
The Broncos added Gregory via a deal that was set for five years and $70 million. … and in the end, in his two seasons in Denver the former second-round pick in Dallas who for years struggled with behavioral issues ended with a total of three sacks for the Broncos.
There is talk that the Broncos "wanted to go younger'' (Gregory is 30) and that Gregory requested his release (that rings true). But there is also a bottom line: The Broncos are a bad team that made a bad move in signing a player who has pocketed $28 million for just a few months of work ... with Denver therefore paying $9 million per sack.
