Cowboys 'True Champion' Dak Prescott Fuels Coach Brian Schottenheimer Love of New Role

The Cowboys have a new offensive coordinator in Brian Schottenheimer, and he can't wait to get down to work with Dak Prescott.

The Dallas Cowboys have been through some changes this offseason, most notably to the offensive coaching setup.

Kellen Moore moved on from being the offensive coordinator, and Brian Schottenheimer is taking over, but head coach Mike McCarthy is calling the plays in what is a rather unusual situation.

One point of emphasis is Dallas quarterback Dak Prescott, who is coming off a league-leading interception total (15), and the Cowboys again not progressing to an NFC championship game as the quarter-century drought continues.

But ... Schottenheimer believes he's going to work with a "true champion'' in Prescott and is looking forward to getting down to business with Dak this offseason.

"First of all, I love him; I've always admired him from afar," Schottenheimer said. "I love the man, I love the work ethic, he's just a tireless preparer. The way the guys follow him, the way he wants to be coached, and how he wants to be open-minded to try different things from a fundamental standpoint. That shows you the sign of a true winner, a champion, and it's been awesome, and I'm looking forward to working with him."

With the offense set to be centered around easing the workload on Dak's shoulders with McCarthy's west coast offense wrinkles, it will be an offseason of teaching and learning at The Star.

For some, not having Prescott do all the heavy lifting on offense is the way forward. In McCarthy's system, the success of the offense is predicated on getting the ball out quickly to the team's playmakers and allowing them to do their work in space.

With new weapons in Brandin Cooks and the drafted Luke Schoonmaker to complement the likes of CeeDee Lamb, Michael Gallup, Tony Pollard, and tight end duo Jake Ferguson and Peyton Hendershot, on paper, the Cowboys have the pieces to put points up in a "no ceiling'' way, as Lamb recently said.

There is so much firepower at Schottenheimer's disposal it is hard not to "love" what the Cowboys could be cooking up this offseason.
