Dallas Cowboys Call to Trade for Kyle Pitts of Atlanta Falcons? 'No Way!'

A Dallas Cowboys Call to Trade for Tight End Kyle Pitts of the Atlanta Falcons? 'No Way!'

FRISCO - Stop us if you've heard this before ... but no matter what Dallas Cowboys media continues to seem to think, the Atlanta Falcons have no intention of giving away their first-round "unicorn'' tight end Kyle Pitts ...

Because while it might be true that they "underuse'' him, that doesn't mean they "undervalue'' him.

The reasons this gossipy idea keeps popping up are understandable: And it starts with Jerry Jones. Jones had a draft-time passion for then-Florida tight end Pitts going into the 2021 NFL Draft; "infatuated'' was the word thrown around. But the Falcons, drafting fourth, picked Pitts. Dallas, a handful of slots later at No. 12, landed a Penn State linebacker named Micah Parsons.

No problems there.

Now the Falcons are 2-1 and consider themselves NFC South contenders. The Falcons are also a run-first team with new rookie Bijan Robinson a centerpiece. But why does anybody think that makes first-round draftee Pitts expendable?

Just in case - and knowing she is retracing the steps on well-traveled ground - our NFL Network friend Jane Slater has checked in with the Falcons, asking if "Pitts is available.''

Slater writes: "A source with the Falcons' answer when I asked: 'LOL. No way.''

There are well-documented red-zone issues with the Dallas offense that in theory a superstar-talent at tight end might help solve. The Cowboys do not have that caliber of performer at this time. The Falcons do - though Pitts through three games has nine catches for 100 yards and no TDs. Which means?

Either a) everybody overrated his talent or b) the Falcons still don't know how to use him or c) the Falcons don't care what anybody thinks as they try to make a playoff push. But this much seems as certain with this latest report as it always has: Whatever the Cowboys' offensive problems are, the Falcons are not interested in offering "unicorn'' solutions.
