Cowboys CB Chase: Shaquill Griffin Cut; Value Vs. Jalen Ramsey Trade?

Should the Cowboys balk at taking on Jalen Ramsey's money in trade to instead just-cut Jaguars cornerback Shaquill Griffin?

FRISCO - There does come a point at which rumors collide. Example?

-There is reportedly "buzz'' about a potential trade of Los Angeles Rams cornerback Jalen Ramsey linking the star corner to the Dallas Cowboys.

And ...

-There is Dallas' stated desire to add an "offensive play-maker with juice,'' with owner Jerry Jones announcing, "Don't be surprised'' he signs a big-name free agent.

Fact is, it would be hard for both of those "buzzes'' to be true. That's why, as we dig through roster- building ideas, there need to be lesser alternatives.

A trade for receiver DeAndre Hopkins? Wonderful ... except for his $27 million APY salary ... which is why we make sure to explore more affordable options.

A trade for a standout cornerback? On paper - not counting the finances - it makes sense to pairing Ramsey and Trevon Diggs, which could form arguably the best corner duo in the NFL.

But the Cowboys could balk at taking on Ramsey's money. ... so we kick around the idea of grabbing Jacksonville Jaguars cornerback Shaquill Griffin.

Can it be done? Easy now, as he just got cut for cap reasons.

how much did Griffin cost last year? Dallas would not have to take on his $11.5 million base salary as a new deal can be negotiated.

Griffin was a Pro Bowler with Seattle in 2019 when he recorded 65 total tackles and 13 pass deflections and is 27. ... and his salary might be a fraction of Ramsey's?

Every Cowboys signing and trade add isn't going to be "juicy.'' But they don't have to be "third-tier'' adds, either. Griffin qualifies as somewhere in the middle ... and therefore may qualify as worthy of a Dallas investigation.
