Cowboys' CeeDee Lamb Talks Contract: 'Distracted' or 'Worried' About Highest-Paid WRs?

Could Dallas Cowboys receiver CeeDee Lamb exceed his career-best production from last season and eventually become the league's highest-paid wideout?

The Dallas Cowboys will only go as far as their superstars take them, and receiver CeeDee Lamb's involvement in that equation is an obvious one.

Dallas, logic says, needs Lamb to be at his ceiling this upcoming season in order to have at ending what feels like an eternal Super Bowl drought. So with that in mind, the topic of Lamb's potential contract extension is one to keep note of as the Cowboys continue OTAs.

Lamb answered questions about this and more at The Star on Thursday, but went a bit back-and-forth when discussing his looming extension. Is he "worried" about the money or does he "not really think" about it?

“I’m going to be 100 percent honest, I’m not even distracted," Lamb said. "The money, definitely worried about it. But it’s not nothing that’s really on my mind every day that I wake up or when I come to the building. I don’t really think about how much money am I gonna make."

Even for a multimillionaire, it's understandable that Lamb would be "worried'' about his personal earnings. But then just one sentence later, he says money isn't something he doesn't really think about. So, which is it? We'll assume that there is something just a bit "lost in translation'' here, that when he talks of being "worried'' he is really just suggesting that he's "aware.''

How close can Lamb be to becoming the league's highest-paid receiver? Miami's Tyreek Hill comes in at $30 million APY. The Raiders' Davante Adams is at $28 million APY. Is that where this is going?

The Cowboys showed faith in possibly eventually getting to that point with Lamb by making the easy call and exercising his nearly $18 million option for 2024, which alone will place him among the top 15 or receivers in terms of APY.

Lamb posted career-best marks in catches (107), receiving yards (1,359), receiving touchdowns (nine) and games played (17) last season. His catch total was tied for the fifth-most in the NFL while his yardage total was good for sixth-best.

Now - unless Dallas is proactive in doing a deal sooner rather than later - in order to show he's not "distracted" or "worried," he'll need to prove his worth to the front office once again this season before potentially earning a career-changing extension.

"It’s really just all about coming in and showing my worth, and then let everything else handle itself," Lamb said.
