'It Sucks!' Cowboys CB Stephon Gilmore 'Smartest Ever!' Trevon Diggs Raves

Dallas Cowboys star receiver CeeDee Lamb is praising his new teammate, defensive back Stephon Gilmore, for his all-time smarts.

The Dallas Cowboys are in the middle of training camp where the team is going head-to-head against each other. In doing so, the defense is making the offense better and vice versa.

CeeDee Lamb, the Cowboys' star wide receiver, is being defended in Oxnard by newcomer Stephon Gilmore.

Gilmore was traded to the Cowboys in March, and he's heading into his 12th season in the NFL. In that time, he's racked up plenty of experience, one Super Bowl win and five Pro Bowl selections. And Lamb had some high praise for his veteran teammate.

"He’s the smartest defensive back that I’ve ever lined up against. He knows certain routes off of my alignment, and it sucks," Lamb said of Gilmore at training camp. "It’s really chess with him. You’re not just running a route, and that’s making me better."

Being defended by Gilmore consistently will benefit the young wide receiver. Learning the small intricacies about the position and how to beat it will help Lamb moving forward.

"On the walk-through reps, he’ll tell me what he’s thinking, just off my alignment ... Just picking his brain. It’s tough going against him, but I like it,” Lamb continued.

Gilmore, 32, appeared in 16 games last season, all starts, picking up two interceptions and 11 passes defended. He's set to play for his fourth team in four years and is joining a stout defense that will allow him to maximize his skills.

Lamb is heading into his fourth season and is coming off his best season yet. The receiver has improved on a yearly basis, and could have an even more impressive season this time around.

The 24-year-old receiver picked up 1,359 receiving yards and nine touchdowns on 107 receptions last season. Now, with Brandin Cooks on the team, there's potential for Lamb to become more efficient at getting open looks and making big plays while helping Dak Prescott reduce turnovers and make easy reads.

All-in-all, having Gilmore show Lamb another perspective and sharpening his game may be a great stepping stone in his young, solid career as the two help Dallas win "chess'' matches against NFL foes.
