Cowboys Ex Chavarius Ward: 'Pray for Amani Joy' - Open-Heart Surgery for Baby
FRISCO - Charvarius Ward, who once fought his way into the NFL preseason spotlight as a member of the Dallas Cowboys and before he reached football's highest peak as a Super Bowl champion with the Kansas City Chiefs, is thanking his fans and social media followers for their prayers following the good news that resulted from a Tuesday surgery performed on baby daughter, Amani Joi.
"Pray for my little one! Open heart surgery today!'' he posted earlier on Tuesday, along with a photo of him embracing his baby before the start of the procedure.
Ward, the defensive back who as an undrafted rookie in 2018 was traded by Dallas to the Chiefs, has twice played in the Super Bowl. He helped the Chiefs win one title and in a Kansas City loss appeared to have recorded the game-winning interception before it was negated by a teammate's penalty.
Last offseason, Ward, 26, jumped via free agency to the San Francisco 49ers with a three-year, $42 million contract.
That surely made for a happy time in the Ward household ... but it's nothing compared to him being able to take to Instagram later in the day to share another post in which he announced that Amani Joy is on the road to recovery after her surgery.
"Thanks everyone for the prayers and support. Amani is out of surgery and on the road to recovery. Thanks for the love!''
Ward recently noted in an interview with The Athletic that his daughter had been born five weeks prematurely and had to be placed in the neonatal intensive care unit for some time.
"I feel like already my baby has given me more heart - more love in my heart, more love in my body. Not only for her but for other people as well," Ward said.
