Cowboys Coach Jimmy Johnson to Be Inducted in Ring of Honor FINALLY … In Miami
FRISCO - At long last, Dallas Cowboys coach Jimmy Johnson will be inducted into the Ring of Honor.
The University of Miami Ring of Honor, that is.
The school has announced that Johnson, along with coach Dennis Erickson and running back Chuck Foreman, are to be the latest additions to the Hurricanes honor list.
It’s a well-deserved honor for Johnson, who was Miami’s head coach from 1984-88, compiling a record of 52-9 and leading his Hurricanes to a national championship.
Johnson left Miami after the 1988 season to become head coach of the Cowboys, where he won two Super Bowls. That of course makes Johnson - a member of both the College and Pro Football Hall of Fame - deserving of being in the Cowboys’ Ring.
Even Cowboys owner Jerry Jones agrees with Johnson’s candidacy, and he’s made a public promise to induct the coach. … while again this off-season suggesting that the honor will not be granted this year.
Jones and Johnson have had a relationship for 60 years - strained as it often is. A ceremony might mend that - and would surely soothe angry Cowboys who wait impatiently for the right thing to be done.
Meanwhile, fans of Johnson - who may also be puzzled as to why it has taken the Hurricanes five decades to honor him - will enjoy the ceremony when it takes place on Oct. 21 in Miami.
