Cowboys Cutting Ezekiel Elliott? Keeping RB Seems 'Far-Fetched' - Insider

Based on the "far-fetched'' take regarding Ezekiel Elliott in Dallas? The Cowboys RB may not be presented with any option at all.

FRISCO - The Dallas Cowboys have made one big decision at their running back room crossroads, with the decision to franchise tag Tony Pollard.

And now comes the next one, with Ezekiel Elliott still set to cost $16.7 million and with an escape hatch available to cut him.

"Far-fetched'' is the phrasing used by long-time Cowboys beat writer Todd Archer as it regards the notion of retaining both Pollard, who is locked in now with $10.9 million for 2023, and Zeke, who ...

Is not locked in.

As team COO Stephen Jones said of Elliott: He "knows" he is "making a lot of money."

We are told the Cowboys are prepared to eat the $11 million of dead money on Zeke and bid him a full goodbye, but that can depend on his willingness to accept a massive pay cut to remain at The Star.

Would a $4 million salary appease him? Would it be worth the bother for the fading two-time rushing champ?

Pollard elevated himself in 2022 to the more relied-upon back, even though Zeke continued on as a starter. That shift is sure to continue in 2023 if Elliott opts to stay in Dallas.

But based on the "far-fetched'' take? Ezekiel Elliott may not even be presented with that option at all.
