Chemistry Set: Inside Cowboys Dak Prescott & Brandin Cooks ‘Great Start’

Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott has a new weapon in Brandin Cooks, and just two days into training camp, the chemistry being built is already being noticed.

The connection between quarterback and receiver needs to be on-point for a team to have success, and for Dallas Cowboys duo Dak Prescott and his new weapon in veteran Brandin Cooks, the pair has gotten off to a good start.

With OTA's and then minicamp, along with sessions in the "Dak-Yard," and a trip away for the QB receivers, the duo has already built a good understanding.

Dak hit Cooks for a deep touchdown pass on Day 2 of training camp, as the connection between the two already looks to be at a high level.

But what does Dak think of his new receiver and the bond they are building?

"We're great," Prescott said. "That's a credit to him. I don't want to give myself too much credit. That's a guy that's a true pro. That's a guy who you can look at his resume throughout this league, look at his numbers and, honestly, you see the way he prepares and the way he takes care of his body. He's been trained the right way and, going into Year 10, he's vital to our team's success."

With Cooks joining an offense that has CeeDee Lamb and Michael Gallup, both of whom are still relatively early in their NFL careers, Cooks brings a wealth of experience, having been in the league for nearly a decade.

His production is likely to be the key component of how Cooks will ultimately be judged this season, but the veteran offers far more than just on-field production.

The teachings and knowledge he has picked up along his journey thus far give the Cowboys another leader that the offense can lean on.

"What he's gonna be able to add in his stats and in his play, but in his leadership alone, I can tell you guys like CeeDee and Michael Gallup are thankful for that," Prescott said. "He's just a helluva guy that allows our chemistry to speed up."

While it is early during training camp, the signs have already been noticeable with how easily Cooks has transitioned into Mike McCarthy's “Texas Coast Offense.”

There is a long way to go, but Cooks has hit the ground running .. and everyone has taken notice - including his all-important QB.
