Cowboys Pass-Catchers Rank: Near Best in NFL?

Where does the Dallas Cowboys group of pass-catchers rank among the top units in the sport?

With the addition of veteran Brandin Cooks, the potential for a resurgence from Michael Gallup and the presence of star CeeDee Lamb, the Dallas Cowboys are hopeful that they've assembled one of the top receiver corps in the NFL for quarterback Dak Prescott to utilize.

But where does their entire group of pass catchers -- which includes receivers, tight ends and running backs that make an impact hauling in passes out of the backfield -- rank? A new countdown attempted to quantify that.

The Ringer ranked the Cowboys pass catchers as the seventh-best group in the NFL.

"Lamb led all receivers in yards from the slot in 2022," Danny Heifetz of The Ringer wrote. "Cooks not-so-quietly-quit on the Houston Texans as they were tanking last season, but had 1,000 yards in six of the previous eight seasons (a feat matched only by Travis Kelce and Mike Evans). Running back Tony Pollard is one of the most electric players with the ball in his hands in the entire NFL, but he’s coming off a broken leg from January."

A first-round pick in 2020, Lamb exploded for 107 catches, 1,359 yards and nine touchdown receptions last season. However, there's a case to be made that after moving on from Amari Cooper, the Cowboys were too reliant on Lamb a season ago.

Clearly, the addition of Cooks is aimed at correcting that trend. As Gallup moves further away from the torn ACL that he suffered in his left knee in Week 17 of the 2021 season, he should make more of an impact than he did in 2022. Perhaps Gallup will never match his 2019 season, when he racked up 1,109 receiving yards. But he's definitely a better player than he showed a season ago, when he caught just 39 passes for 424 yards in 14 games.

However, between Gallup, Cooks, Pollard and the loss of tight end Dalton Schultz in free agency, there's enough uncertainty from the pass-catchers in Dallas for No. 7 to be their ceiling on a list like this. … though we bet that for what’s it’s worth, the evaluators here haven’t included a surging Jalen Tolbert … and of course, we don’t know what the “Four Horsemen” tight ends might do here.

The Cincinnati Bengals -- led by the receiver trio of Ja'Marr Chase, Tee Higgins and Tyler Boyd -- came in at No. 1 on the countdown, edging out the Dallas NFC East-rival Philadelphia Eagles.
