Dak's Dolphins Plan: How Can Dallas 'Come Out Hot!'?
The Dallas Cowboys have moved on from their humbling 31-10 loss to the Buffalo Bills as attention turns to the Miami Dolphins in Week 16. ... and an intense focus on "coming out hot.''
The Cowboys were bludgeoned by the Bills running attack as James Cook rushed for 179 yards on 25 carries. While Dallas' defense got ripped for its efforts, the offense seemed to not get as much attention.
Held to a season-low 195 total yards, the Cowboys' "Texas Coast Offense" never got going. And now there is a common theme from inside The Star this week - start fast.
“Especially just after last week," quarterback Dak Prescott said. "Just looking over the course of the season, I think for one, it gives our defense a great amount of confidence when we score early. They take the field, get to play with the lead or whether it's a 0-0 type game because the game's tied whatever it is, I just think that group plays hungry.
"And feeding off of our energy and then vice versa ... It's important for us to make sure our offense is firing and we come out hot.”
Facing the league's best offense in terms of points per game (31.5 points per), Dallas knows that it will need to match Miami score for score, and being the second-ranked offense for points per game (30.8), it has the weapons to do so.
Dak stated that the defense gets confidence when the offense is rolling and after last week's capitulation in Buffalo, the importance of starting fast can't be understated.
This Dolphins team can hang 30 points on a defense in the blink of an eye, and we have seen Dallas' defense be able to be pushed around (49ers, Seahawks, and Bills).
Dak Ranks - Surprise! - No. 1 in 'Decision-Making'?
But one way to alleviate that is starting the game fast and putting points on the board.
Based on the messaging, the Cowboys seem to have every intent of making an early statement on Sunday - Cowboys Nation just hopes it's the right one.
