Dallas Cowboys Dak Prescott Ranks 'No. 1 in MVP Race!' Says NFL Analyst
You will be hard-pressed to find a quarterback playing better football than Dallas Cowboys' Dak Prescott right now. San Francisco's Brock Purdy, the Eagles' Jalen Hurts, the Ravens' Lamar Jackson and the Dolphins' Tua deserve acclaim. but Dak has been in superb form of late.
As a result, the Cowboys now have a shot at the NFC East and the conference lead if they manage to slay the Philadelphia Eagles on "Sunday Night Football."
Dak has catapulted himself into the MVP talk, and former NFL receiver James Jones is a buyer.
“Dak Prescott is playing lights-out,” Jones said on FS1’s Speak. “His team is winning football games. Dak Prescott right now is playing at the highest level at the quarterback position out of anybody."
It is hard to argue with Jones' comments, and Dak's stats over the last six weeks make for good reading. Prescott has thrown for 1,901 yards, 20 touchdowns, and two interceptions, is completing 70.6 percent of his passes, has a rating of 123.1, and has a 5-1 record.
Additionally, Dak leads the NFL in touchdown passes (26), is third in completion percentage (70.1), fifth in passing yards (3,234), fifth in yards per game (269.5), second in QBR (75.4), and is second in passer rating (108.3).
By any metric, that is MVP-type football.
'I Have The Pen & Paper!' Dak Prescott: A 'Championship' MVP QB
While some are still hesitant to put Dak in the MVP conversation due to him "not playing anyone of note" - despite him torching the Seattle Seahawks in the 41-35 win - Dak will get more chances to quiet those naysayers.
But right now?
“Dak Prescott is the hottest quarterback in football,” Jones said. “He’s earning it, and the best thing about it is he has a tough schedule coming up. He’s going to have an opportunity to play against a lot of good quarterbacks that are in the MVP conversation.''
The next three weeks will either solidify Dak's MVP standing or make it fade, as the Eagles, Buffalo Bills, and Miami Dolphins are on the schedule. With two of those three away from AT&T Stadium, we will get a good gauge of where Dallas and Dak are in the NFC and MVP race.
If Prescott can continue to play "lights-out" football over the duration of those games, and the Cowboys keep winning, then the NFL MVP winner might just be Rayne Dakota Prescott.
