Cowboys’ Dak Prescott Teaches Trey Lance at Practice: FIRST LOOK PHOTOS
FRISCO - The Dallas Cowboys are back inside The Star … and new backup QB Trey Lance, having been traded from San Francisco, is here with them …
And here is your First Look inside the Cowboys workout on Wednesday …
Lance is wearing jersey No. 15 - his No. 5 is already taken by punter Bryan Anger - and so Will Grier’s old gear is made to fit just fine …
Cowboys coach Mike McCarthy figures to be mostly busy with prep for the Week 1 game at the New York Giants, but he did take a moment to share some wisdom with the former No. 3 overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft …
Losing out to both Brock Purdy and Sam Darnold was a tough pill to swallow, and once the writing was on the wall for his time in San Francisco, Lance was ready for his next move … which now means he’s the No. 3 QB behind Dak Prescott and Cooper Rush.
"I really tried to not expect anything one way or another, but I can say that when I heard it was the Cowboys, I had a big smile on my face," said Lance on Tuesday in his first interview as a Cowboy. "I'm very excited to be here. … I believe that everything happens for a reason. I believe I'm here for a reason and, regardless of what it is, I'm here to try and find a way to help this team."
During the early going in this session, Lance was very much leaning on Dak for advice - even on footwork … but most of his time was spent alongside QB coach Scott Tolzien.
The Cowboys actually have more important business to deal with than Lance, of course. But he’s a crowd-pleasing story, as is the fact that rookie running backs Deuce Vaughn and Hunter Luepke both made the team …
Jourdan Lewis is also practicing after having been activated off of PUP … An absence that dates back to his injury last October.
Eventually, the newness of Lance’s presence will wear off. But Cowboys fans are surely encouraged to know that Dak and Dallas have “welcomed him with open arms,” as Lance said.
For Lance? Helping the team now means learning McCarthy's "Texas Coast Offense" and, perhaps more importantly, getting to know his new teammates and coaching staff.
For the rest of the Cowboys? This day is mostly about the Giants.
