Cowboys' Dan Quinn Reveals Scary Micah Parsons Prediction: 'Haven't Seen it All Yet!'
The Dallas Cowboys have started the season in emphatic fashion, blitzing both the New York Giants and the New York Jets, with Micah Parsons being a key factor in both games.
Parsons was at his devastating best on Sunday at AT&T Stadium as the Jets offensive line simply had no answer to the "Lion-Backer."
The work that Micah has put in all offseason has been well-documented, and now we are seeing the fruits of his labor.
Coordinator Dan Quinn is now making a prediction about his star defensive player that will send shivers down the spines of all 31 other NFL teams: We haven't seen the best of Parsons yet.
"He has really worked his (butt) off this offseason," Quinn said. "He's faster, his hands are better, his rushing is better. That jump that you hoped somebody would make, he was intentional about the work that he put in. He's definitely playing better than he ever has, which is saying a lot. You haven't seen it all yet, for sure."
In his two games, Micah has three sacks, a forced fumble, a fumble recovery, four tackles for loss, and six quarterback hits. But Parsons' effectiveness in games isn't just about his stats.
Parsons simply being on the field and what it does to the offensive line also creates havoc, as evidenced by the double team the Giants placed on him in Week 1 that allowed Osa Odighizuwa to sack Daniel Jones.
“I’m just hungry,'' Micah said after the win over the Jets as he sets his aim not just at NFL Defensive Player of the Year, but at league MVP. "This organization changed my life, so I’m trying to give back to the fans and Mr. Jerry Jones.”
Such has been Micah's domination in the early going that the Lawrence Taylor comparison is starting to get traction. Now, Taylor had a seven-year stretch where he had at least 10.5 sacks and an MVP award, so despite Parsons' efforts, he still has a long way to go, but we can see why the comparison has been made.
But one thing stands out the most when watching Parsons do his thing on the football field - his speed.
On Sunday, Micah's first sack on Zach Wilson was breathtaking simply due to how fast he closed in on his meal before devouring it.
Quinn labeled Parsons' speed and quickness as his superpower.
"From 0-to-60, it goes fast," Quinn said. "That's the part that's unique about him, his short area quickness, his ability to stop and start quickly. That's why when there's a space, he can close the distance with quickness. That's one of his superpowers. It's on full display when we blitz, you feel that energy coming at you."
With Parsons clearly the centerpiece of the defense and potentially the team, he is taking head coach Mike McCarthy's "Carpe Omnia" season theme rather seriously. He is seizing everything and has a thirst for more.
Micah has frightening in the opening two weeks and he has put the entire NFL on notice.
"He's coming,'' as he himself says. ... and good luck to anyone who hopes to stop him.
