Cowboys WATCH: Dat Nguyen Film Set to Release July 4

Dat Nguyen made a mark on Texas football with both the Dallas Cowboys and beyond after his family arrived in America after the Fall of Saigon.

Texas A&M Athletics is set to release a documentary centered on former Dallas Cowboys linebacker Dat Nguyen, who became one of football's most inspirational stories.

The film will premiere on Texas A&M athletics' website as well as the 12th Man over-the-top app, Apple TV, Roku, and Amazon Fire Stick on July 4, Independence Day in the United States.

Entitled "All-American: The Dat Nguyen Story," the film will depict Nguyen's life as the son of Vietnamese refugees, who arrived in America after the Fall of Saigon. Despite a relatively small frame (5-11, 238 lbs.), Nguyen would go on to serve as a linebacker for Texas A&M, earning numerous accolades such as the Chuck Bednarik Award (bestowed to the nation's top defensive player), the Big 12 Defensive Player of the Year Award, and unanimous All-American honors, all coming in his senior year in 1998.

Prior to his time as an Aggie, Nguyen starred at Rockport-Fulton High School in Rockport, having grown up in the Gulf Coast town.

After his four-year term in College Station, Nguyen would be drafted by the Cowboys in the third round of the 1999 NFL Draft. Injuries limited his NFL tenure to seven seasons but he notably earned All-Pro honors during the Cowboys' playoff run in 2003.

Clips of Nguyen's Dallas arrival, where he's flanked by team owner Jerry Jones and then-head coach Chan Gailey, are seen, as are images from his time in Cowboys camp. As it stands, Nguyen still ranks seventh in Cowboys history with 38 tackles for a loss, tied with Jason Hatcher.

Nguyen earned a supreme compliment from another Dallas head coach, Bill Parcells in 2004, as the two-time Super Bowl champion said he felt the linebacker wouldn't be out of place on one of his teams in New York or New England.

"He's just too good. He makes too many plays," Parcells said. "I had my doubts, but it did not take long to see (that) he's a football player. He could have played for any of my teams."

After his playing career, Nguyen spent time on the staffs of both the Cowboys (2007-09) and Texas A&M (2010-11). He was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 2017.
