Cowboys Ex Deion Sanders Hires Another NFL Coach at Colorado

If all goes well, Cowboys ex Deion Sanders should be on the sideline - with Mike Zimmer and Pat Shurmur at his disposal - when Colorado opens against TCU.

FRISCO - Former Dallas Cowboys star Deion Sanders is building his way back to good health … and building his coaching staff at Colorado as well.

Pat Shurmur is reportedly set to join Sanders' Colorado football staff as an analyst … where he will work alongside Mike Zimmer, who has a similar role with the Buffaloes.

Shurmur has over 20 years of NFL experience, much of it as an offensive coordinator. He was briefly a New York Giants head coach and he most recently served right down the road from Boulder as the offensive coordinator for the Denver Broncos from 2020-2021.

So that’s one connection. The other? Zimmer, the former coach of the Vikings, had Shurmur serving on his staff in Minnesota. During Shutmur’s time with the Vikings, he won 2017 NFL Assistant Coach of the Year.

Zimmer and Sanders, as Cowboys fans know, became close when “Prime Time” played here in a defense coached by Zimmer.

“Coach Prime” recently underwent another surgery as he hopes to avoid the possibility of amputating a foot due to long-time blood clot problems in his legs. If all goes well, he should be on the sideline - with Zimmer and Shurmur at his disposal -  when Colorado opens the 2023 season on Sept. 2 against TCU.
