'Nowhere Cold!' Cowboys Legend Deion Sanders Reveals Draft Demand For QB Son Shedeur
Shedeur Sanders, son of Hall of Fame cornerback Deion Sanders, is still a year out from entering the NFL Draft, but he and his father are already planning his professional football future.
Appearing on Sirius XM Mad Dog Radio with Chris Russo, Deion revealed where he'd like to see his son play, or more accurately, where he'd like to see him not play. In the interview, the legendary Cowboys corner and current Colorado Buffaloes head coach revealed that he doesn't want his son playing out in the cold.
“Like, I don’t want my kid [Shedeur] going nowhere cold next year," Deion said, per Pro Football Talk. "He grew up in Texas. He played in Jackson, played in Colorado. Season’s over before it gets cold in Colorado. I’m just thinking way ahead. I don’t want that for him.”
Taking Deion at his word, that criteria basically eliminates half of the league as potential suitors for Shedeur.
Most teams in the Northeast and Midwest have to deal with the elements from time to time, as do stragglers such as the Denver Broncos (which is ironic considering Shedeur plays for his dad at Colorado). Some teams like the Detroit Lions and Minnesota Vikings play in cold-weather cities as well, but considering that they play in domed stadiums, the elements would be far less of an issue.
To further illustrate his point, Deion used USC quarterback Caleb Williams, the likely No. 1 pick in the upcoming draft, as his example. If projections hold true, Williams is likely to go from bright and sunny California to cold and windy Chicago as the Bears hold the first pick. The shift in climate is quite a big adjustment, and the Sanders would like to avoid that if possible.
“Let me tell you something that I have a problem with,” Deion said. “And this kid can flat-out play, I think he’s the best one on the board this year for sure. A kid that’s coming from California for the last couple years, right? And went to Oklahoma. That’s not terribly cold. Chicago’s cold, man.
"You gotta think about that kind of stuff when you’re taking a young man. Like see, when you take a guy from Ohio State and you bring him to Chicago, OK, I could understand that. But from California to Chicago? Not only that, they added what? One or two more games in the NFL. Seventeen games. Come on, man. You gotta factor in that stuff. That stuff matters."
All true. But Deion may not realize that Williams is from the Washington D.C. area, not California.
'It Ain't Gonna Work!' Deion on Wrong With The Cowboys
Deion and Shedeur will likely have little to no say in where the latter gets drafted, unless he decides to pull an Eli Manning. With the criteria set, though, could we see Shedeur join the Cowboys and don the same jersey his father wore all those years ago? At least we know Dallas is warm enough.
