Cowboys BREAKING: Overshown OUT for Season; What’s Next?

The Dallas Cowboys lost rookie linebacker DeMarvion Overshown for the season in their 22-14 loss to the Seattle Seahawks.

The Dallas Cowboys linebacker depth was slimmed in Saturday's 22-14 loss to the Seattle Seahawks as rookie third-round pick DeMarvion Overshown went down with an apparent knee injury. After rumors of a potential season-ending ACL tear, the Cowboys' nightmare came true as the MRI revealed the worst.

That torn ACL will cost the Texas Longhorns ex his 2023 season.

Just one week after making his preseason debut with the Cowboys, Overshown's rookie year ended before it ever really started. ... And despite arriving in Dallas without big expectations like having to feature as a starter right away, the Cowboys' depth will be tested.

With Overshown's injury, the Cowboys are left a bit short at linebacker, a group that includes both projected starters Leighton Vander Esch and Damone Clark. Yet the injury to the former Texas Longhorn doesn't necessarily affect them as much as it does the guys behind them on the depth chart.

The predicted usage for Overshown this season was to see the field occasionally, most likely on passing downs where his speed can make him a more favorable matchup against running backs and tight end, all of obvious in addition to special teams. So who could be the next man up for the Cowboys?

Jabril Cox is likely the first name that comes to mind for fans, but the linebacker out of LSU has yet to feature much for the Cowboys due to injuries. Yet, barring any more setbacks, the injury to Overshown could see him receive even more snaps than he would've if the rookie were healthy.

The next... Devin Harper? The second-year backer, formerly of Oklahoma State, was previously projected as cut in CowboysSI.com's latest 53-man roster projection, although now, with Overshown likely out for the season, he could take one of the final spots.

Keeping Harper and Cox would give the Cowboys four ‘backers to choose from as they head into their Week 1 matchup with the New York Giants, making Malik Jefferson the only preseason cut. … And maybe also meaning Dallas might be in search of help here.
