Is Cowboys' Jerry Jones Leaving Dak Prescott and Mike McCarthy Taking All The Bullets' of Blame?

Donovan McNabb believes that Jerry Jones' public insistence on a successful working relationship will hurt the Dallas Cowboys moving forward.

Owner of a 12-9 record in 21 starts against the Dallas Cowboys, Donovan McNabb at least has some idea as to how America's Team runs.

The former Philadelphia Eagles star sees only danger ahead after team owner Jerry Jones publicly insisted that he's capable of working with arguably the greatest head coach in NFL history.

Plenty has gone down on the Cowboys' ledgers since their unceremonious postseason ousting at the hands of the Green Bay Packers, so it's perhaps easy to forget that Jones insisted he could make things work with Bill Belichick, who is a free agent on the coaching front after he and the New England Patriots parted ways after 24 seasons.

McNabb certainly didn't forget ...

"When asked about his coaching decision, will Mike McCarthy continue to be his head coach to possibly lead them to a Super Bowl, Jerry decided to defer a little bit and talk about how great Bill Belichick is, and to talk about how he would work with Bill Belichick," McNabb noted on his Outkick podcast "The Five Spot." "(That's) not really supporting his head coach or his quarterback."

"As a former quarterback, that’s not full support of having a guy as the face of your franchise and a guy who really takes all of the bullets when it comes to negative conversation about the Dallas Cowboys."

The Cowboys are sticking with Mike McCarthy and the last season on his current contract, but the idea of Belichick looming over his shoulder sets an unnerving tone for the 2024 season.

That's at least how McNabb sees it, as he believes that Jones' verbal leering of Belichick doesn't exactly count as a vote of confidence for either McCarthy or franchise quarterback Dak Prescott.

Why Hiring Belichick Won't Fix Cowboys After 'Most Painful' Playoff Loss: Top 10 Observations

Jones caught some flack for maintaining the status quo after the loss to the Packers, which makes his apparent endorsement of Belichick all the more puzzling. McCarthy is in the final year of his current contract so he and Prescott will face what appears to be a make-or-break season. Now, it'll spent with the implication that one false move could have Jones playing the Belichick card.
