The Dallas Cowboys need a replacement for Michael Gallup, and in NFL.com's latest mock draft, that replacement is LSU's Brian Thomas Jr.

The Dallas Cowboys' snail-paced free agency approach has left the roster with significant holes that the franchise to fill over the coming months.

While free agency isn't naturally a time where Dallas whips out the credit card, but if there ever was a time for Jerry Jones and the front office to do it after yet another poor playoff loss - it was now.

But alas, several starters and rotational players have walked out the door with linebacker Eric Kendricks being the sole addition.

The offensive line, defensive line, and linebacking units have seen significant holes develop. Still, despite that, in NFL.com's latest mock draft, the Cowboys give Dak Prescott another weapon after Michael Gallup's departure in LSU's Brian Thomas Jr.

"Thomas and 2022 third-round pick Jalen Tolbert will compete for the starting job left open by the release of Michael Gallup, in an attempt to give Dak Prescott the best possible downfield target to complement Brandin Cooks and CeeDee Lamb," NFL.com writes.

NFL.com mentions Jalen Tolbert and Brian Thomas Jr. could be competing for the WR3 spot, but if Dallas is selecting a receiver in the first round over other pressing needs like left tackle or linebacker, we imagine that Thomas Jr. will automatically usurp Tolbert in the depth chart - to begin with at least.

The 6-5, 198lb receiver will give Dallas some physicality on offense that it is sorely lacking. Not only that, but Thomas Jr. is also highly productive when targets come his way. He registered 1,177 yards and a whopping 17 touchdowns from 68 receptions for LSU last season.

Additionally, with Brandin Cooks being Dallas' only home-run threat, Thomas Jr. is a walking deep-threat playmaker every time he steps onto the field. Getting the ball in his hands with quick, crisp throws (hello, Mike McCarthy's Texas Coast Offense), Thomas Jr. can also become a YAC merchant thanks to his elusiveness in open space.

With his ability to create consistent separation (something Dallas receivers struggled with last season), Thomas Jr. could come in and be a vaible contributor from Day 1.

While the Cowboys clearly have other pressing needs, adding a receiver is certainly a fun project - especially when that receiver is Thomas Jr.
